False accuser gets dischargeNational Post
HALIFAX - A woman who made false accusations of kidnapping that led to a massive police manhunt was given a conditional discharge yesterday on mischief charges. Prosecutors say Michelle Lawrence, 26, still loves the con man who convinced her to lie to police. Ms. Lawrence walked into a Niagara Falls store last March claiming she had been kidnapped by a Florida man she met on an Internet chat line. Ms. Lawrence later admitted she had eloped with him and concocted the abduction story when she got homesick.
